The Michael Joseph Jackson Archives

IMPORTANT NOTICE
February 3, 2010

It has been brought to the attention of the fans (MJFam) on Twitter by our good friend, Sahar (@HAUSofMJ), who had attended this school from 1994-1996, that the authorities at Gardner Street School had decided to cover the name "Michael Jackson" on the G.S.S. Auditorium (which was renamed Michael Jackson Auditorium on October 11, 1989) sign during the time when child abuse/molestation allegations were made against him in 2003. However, after his acquittal, the cover has not been taken off. And even after his death, no action has been instigated to literally "clear" his name by taking down the plywood boxes (LosAngelesHistorian.com)

On October 11, 1989, Gardner Street School in LA, California had gotten its school auditorium renamed as "Michael Jackson Auditorium" in honor of Michael Jackson who had once attended this school for a short period of time in 1970 when the Jackson family moved to California.

This cannot be allowed to continue. We, the MJJ Archives team, are asking for the support and help of all the Michael Jackson fans worldwide. Please help us convince the school district to take down the covers and reveal his name once more to the public.

We have made a standard email that you can use to quickly send to the Superintendent of Los Angeles Unified School District, Mr. Ramon C. Cortines. Here are the details:
  • Download the attachment from here: MJ PETITION EMAIL
  • Copy-paste the letter (take out the first few lines, where it says "subject" and "email" and all that) on your email (it's better than attaching the file).
  • Insert your name at the bottom where you are prompted. Also include your current location.
  • Send it to Mr. Ramon C. Cortines at superintendent@lausd.net
You can also call at 1-213-241-7000 .

or to:
The Office of the Superintendent
333 S. Beaudry Ave.
Los Angeles, CA 90017

this is a nice gesture, but a lot of people don't realize Michael never WENT to this school. While he DID go to a Gardner Street School, the one he went to was in his hometown. WHen the family moved to LA, he went to Walton School

Dear Sir:

It has been brought to the attention of the local and international communities of Michael Jackson's supporters that the concern regarding the uncovering of the name “Michael Jackson” on the sign above the entrance of the Gardner Street School Auditorium (7450 Hawthorn Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90046) has not been properly addressed with after his acquittal. And sadly, even up to now, months after his death, this issue has not been looked into.

We are greatly distressed by this and we would like to take action as a sign of respect for the man and his innocence on the matter, attested by the clearance of charges. We feel that continual covering of his name is unnecessary and very disrespectful.

In behalf of all the concerned fans, I would like to ask the management and the school board to remove the cover and reveal the name “Michael Jackson” once more to the public. I believe that it will be a great honor to his memory and a great joy to the Jackson family to know that the school has taken action to clear his name. This may seem like a small thing, but it means a lot to them and to all of us.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this petition. We are looking forward to an immediate response to our plea.

Sincerely Yours,

(Lucyna Davern)

This comment is in reply to ROB. I attended Gardner Street School in 1994-1996 when the auditorium was proudly displaying his name. Michael Jackson DID attend Gardner Street Elementary for his 6th grade year when the Jackson family moved from Gary to LA. Which is why they honored him in 1989 with a plaque and the unveiling of the new "Michael Jackson Auditorium". I had the same music teacher he had as well as we the students were close to MJ's 6th grade teacher who was still there when I attended Mrs. Gerson.

Thank you all so much for getting the word out. I will be sending my letter in the mail as I tend to think a signed, personal letter is less likely to be ignored than an email. At least, I hope so.

Here's my letter:

February 25, 2010
Mr. Ramon C. Cortines, Superintendent
Los Angeles Unified School District
PO Box 3307
Los Angeles, CA 90051

Dear Mr. Cortines;

I am writing to personally request your consideration to remove the covering that conceals Michael Jackson’s name above the entrance of the Gardner Street School Auditorium, located at 7450 Hawthorn Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90046.

Michael Jackson devoted his life and his career - and donated much of his earnings - to making life better for children around the world. You have the unique ability to restore an honor bestowed upon Mr. Jackson that was unjustly taken away – another casualty of the false accusations of another.

Michael Jackson’s fans are a passionate, caring and loyal group of people from all corners of the world. We firmly believe it will be a great honor to his memory and a great joy to the Jackson family to know that the school has taken action to restore his name. This may seem like a small gesture, but it means a great deal to all of us.

Thank you for your time and consideration. We look forward to a response to our request.

Best regards,

Kristina (name & address removed)

This website is an amazing protest against these evil reprebates. What an awful thing this school could do,for you or me,this might not have been such an upset, but for Michael this would have killed him inside. All we can do now is to make other people join and hopefully soon enough maybe Michael Jackson's name will be released.R.I.P The King of Pop MJ

I think it is very unfair to keep Michael Jackson's name covered. Why is it covered in the first place? Michael had done no wrong and yet, he's getting punished for it? Show your respect for a man who did so much good for the world and be proud to have his name apart of your school.
