Michael Jackson fans demand King of Pop's name be restored; 'Unmasked' author announces documentary
by Trina Yannicos
March 18 - Michael Jackson fans who always believed in the King of Pop's innocence regarding the child molestation charges are demanding that Michael Jackson's name be restored, literally, at the Gardner Street school in Los Angeles. [Part omitted]
When the Jacksons first moved to Los Angeles, Michael attended sixth grade at Gardner Street Elementary School on Hawthorn Avenue. In 1989, Gardner honored Jackson by naming the school auditorium the "Michael Jackson Auditorium". Michael attended the dedication ceremony.
Sadly, in 2003, the school covered up Michael Jackson's name after Jackson was accused of child sexual abuse. The sign outside the entrance to the auditorium was covered up after complaints from angry parents, leaving only the word "Auditorium." It is still covered up to this day. The principal of the school, Kenneth Urbina, said last year that redisplaying Jackson’s name would most likely have to be the result of an outpouring of concern.
In the last few months, a group of Michael Jackson fans began a campaign to get Jackson's name restored to the front of the auditorium. A Facebook page has been set up called "Uncover Michael Jackson's Name (The Gardner St. School Issue Campaign)." The campaign organizers are asking people to send e-mails to the LA Superintendent, Ramon C. Cortines, requesting that Michael Jackson's name be uncovered on the sign of the Gardner Street School Auditorium in Los Angeles, California.
